State challenge begins for Jax United
The North Florida champion hosts Golden Goal Soccer this Saturday in the UPSL Division 1 state quarterfinals. The undefeated record and the dream of a third championship of the season will be at stake in Jacksonville.
Jax United begins one of the most demanding stages of its historic debut this weekend. After winning the regular season and the championship of the North Florida Conference, the Jacksonville team will face Golden Goal Soccer, champion of the Central Conference, in a direct elimination duel for the state quarterfinals of the UPSL Division 1.
The team led by Juan Palacio arrives at this stage as a clear favorite after achieving 10 victories in 10 games and scoring 57 goals during the regular phase and taking the double crown of the category, after beating Inter-United 6-1 in the playoff final.
However, in front will be a rival who also had a great campaign and lifted the trophy twice. Golden Goal Soccer finished the season with 9 wins, 1 draw and only 1 loss, in addition to 31 goals scored, to win the Central Conference title in a match that ended 4-1 against Hunter's Creek Soccer Club.
Respect for the rival
The forward of Jax United FC, Yeiser Rangel, assured that within the squad there is respect for a team that stands out for its youth and intensity.
“The teacher has told us about them. It is a very young team, that runs a lot and that also comes with the intention of winning. We must respect it.”
Despite having already raised two trophies this season, Rangel made it clear that the group maintains the same mentality.
“We have worked hard week after week. Having been champions twice keeps us grounded; we want to go until the last game.”
Recovered for the challenge
Rangel also confirmed that the ankle injury suffered during the conference final will not prevent him from being available. "I already did therapy and I feel much better. If everything continues like this, I will be ready to compete."
The attacker also took the opportunity to invite the fans to fill the stands at Fort Family Park.
"Let people come and support us. It will be a game to enjoy with the family and with good football."
A duel between champions
The clash will pit two of the strongest teams of the season in Florida. While Jax United boasts the most explosive offense of the tournament with an average of 5.7 goals per game, Golden Goal Soccer arrives as a much more balanced team, with only one defeat in the entire campaign and accustomed to competing in close matches.
